Françoise Kaufman was born in Brittany, France between the Emerald and Pink Granite Coasts, always surrounded by the intense colors that inspired her while she was enrolled at the local art school.
I was a little girl I loved to play with my mother's and grandmother's jewelry. They looked gigantic on me... I looked like a Maharani. I still love this opulence, and I think that is why I like to create big "in your face" statement pieces."
Her pieces are crafted with Venetian glass from Murano, Italy, Austrian Crystal, and gold-filled or sterling silver wire creating a spectacular floating effect.
Françoise is a 500RYT yoga instructor and French teacher. She lives in Austin, Texas with her husband who is a Naval Commander and their 3 children.
She was influenced by the beauty and elegance of modern European artists like Miro, Picasso, Chagall and Klimt.
A formally trained optician, she spent a number of years designing and making eyewear. Working throughout the Mediterranean, Françoise catered predominately to the discerning clients of the French Riviera.
Combining her extensive training in the fabrication of eyewear using a variety of mediums and her love of creative jewelery, she began designing personalized pieces inspired by the vibrant colors of southern France and Italy.
